Cashel is a great base if you are touring the South East, Midlands and South West of Ireland. There are many things to do and see. 

Heritage & Sightseeing

Why not start your visit to the Cashel Heritage Centre where you can pick up a map and information on Cashel (See an audio visual of Cashel  from the 1640’s). Then visit the famous Rock of Cashel (Recently visited by HRM Elizabeth II),  Dominic’s Abbey and Hoare Abbey.  Look out for the Sheela na Gig on the walls of the Rock!

Have a relaxing lunch in one of our many great pubs or restaurants and spend the afternoon visiting Cahir Castle (10min drive from Cashel). From the Castle then walk along the river to the Swiss Cottage and see this magnicifant  200 year old cottage belonging to the Butler family.

Fethard is a great place to visit, you can see the first class example of a Walled Town with Tower House.  Check out the Sheela na Gig on the walls here also!    Fethard is also famous race-horsing country, home to Coolmore Stud and High Chaparral and the Duke of Marmalade. Group visits can be arranged by prior appointment.

Out of Town Heritage Trips & Tours

Lismore is a great place to go, travelling across the  beautiful rugged landscape of the Vee where you may encounter an odd sheep or two, Lismore Castle and Gardens is a great place to visit. Do the Lady Gregory town walk and see the Millinnium Garden. Visit the Lismore Heritage Centre and see the Robert Boyles exhibition.

Walking in Tipperary

We have the many wonderful walking trails in Tipperary, through forests, hills and valleys  and along the river Suir. Witness the wonders of nature as you breath in the clean country air.

Tipperary has the Tippeary Ten Walks

  1. Golden to the Rock of Cashel  - 10km linear walk along the River Suir ending at the Rock of Cashel. Appreciate the heritage, wildlife and flora all around.
  2. Capture the Castle – 2km linear walk from Cahir Castle to the Swiss Cottage.A pleasant wood and riverside walk.
  3. Loop the Loop in Ballinacourty - 11km looped walk  from  Christ the King in the Glen of Aherlow follow the waymarked path and take in the breathtaking view of Tiipperary’s Galtee  Mountains. A walkers paradise where there is always a welcome.
  4. If you go down to the Woods today.. Glengarry Woods on the southern slopes of the Galtees -2kms.  Looped walk Red or Green – great for the kids, have a picnic and make a day out of it.
  5. Discover the Unknown.. 14km  looped walk at Goatenbridge. Follow the forest paths with fantastic views of the Knockmealdown Mountains.
  6. A Hidden Gem  - 5km looped walk at Glenbawn Woods near Clonmel. Take time out to walk the Dun Ui Faolain loop, a hidden gem on the outskirts of Clonmel, beyond Marlfield Village. There are three extremely pleasant 5 km rambles through old woods and along the banks of the River Suir.
  7. Butlers & Castles  10km linear walk from the Ormond Castle in Carrick-on-Suir to Kilsheenlan. Relax along the River Suir and use the local bus to bring you back to your accommodation in Carrick-on-Suir.
  8. Walk the Walls 2kms – historic Town Trail of Fethard’s medieval walls, built in 1292 and explore its Norman history and Irish culture.
  9. Bogs & Butterflies  3kms looped walk. Visit the best bog in Tipperary – the Lough Derg Bhile Loop is rich in biodiversity and a haven for butterflies. Bring a picnic and spend the day exploring the flora and fauna.
  10. Overlooking Kilcooley  6kms Looped walk Grange-Crag  loop with its Victorian Ice House and Wellington Monument, looks down on Kilcooley Abbey and has views across the whole of Tipperary.
